What is a Aroma Blend Exactly?

Aroma blends are concentrated combinations of herbs, resins, and essential oils meant to be experienced through the senses. Unlike teas or infusions, which are meant to be sipped, these blends are meant to be inhaled or applied lightly, carrying their scent and intention into the moment.

They can include dried herbs, fragrant resins like frankincense or myrrh, or drops of essential oil to deepen the aroma. Each blend invites pause, reflection, and a small act of care, offering a way to connect with yourself or others near.

Using a blend is simple: place a small pinch on the crown, wrists, or anywhere you feel drawn, and breathe it in. You can adjust the herbs to what you have or what calls to you in the moment.

Lets Talk Ingredients

<Amounts are listed below in printable>

Olive Oil -> Nourishing and gentle, high in oleic acid. Softens skin and supports barrier function while carrying the other oils.

Balsam Fir Infused in Almond Oil -> Resinous and foresty, containing monoterpenes that can be uplifting and grounding.

Cedarwood Essential Oil -> Warm, woody, and calming. Contains cedrol, which may support relaxation and mental clarity.

Frankincense and Myrrh Essential Oils -> Sacred resins rich in terpenes. Traditionally used for meditation and ritual, with aromatic properties that can soothe and focus the mind.

Rosehip Oil -> Rich in essential fatty acids and antioxidants. Supports skin hydration, regeneration, and overall nourishment.

This blend is layered and purposeful. Fir and cedarwood ground the senses. Frankincense and myrrh invite focus. Rosehip and olive oil nourish and carry the blend gently into the skin.

About Me

How does it work?

Aroma blends work through both the sense of smell and the skin. When inhaled, volatile compounds in essential oils and resins send chemical signals to the olfactory bulb, which connects directly to the limbic system. This area of the brain governs emotion, memory, and stress response, which is why scents like frankincense, myrrh, balsam fir, and cedarwood can feel grounding, uplifting, or clarifying almost immediately.

Applied to the crown, wrists, or other pulse points, the oils can also be absorbed through the skin. Carrier oils like olive or rosehip help deliver beneficial compounds while nourishing and protecting the skin. Frankincense contains boswellic acids that have anti-inflammatory and soothing properties. Myrrh contains sesquiterpenes and resin compounds that support tissue repair and mild antimicrobial action. Cedarwood and balsam fir contain cedrol and α-pinene, which studies suggest may support relaxation and clear the airways when inhaled.

This dual pathway through smell and absorption makes aroma blends both a sensory and subtly medicinal experience. A few mindful breaths can shift mood or focus while repeated use supports a quiet, reflective, and centered state over time.

Instructions

First gather all your ingredients: Herbs, Oils of Choice, Essential Oils, Small (ml) measuring container.

(1) Infusion: If you are doing any infusions, you will want to start prepping those before. I typically let them infuse for 24-48 hours. Since we are using Balsam fir and infusing it into almond oil, we do not need to let is sit for that long. The almond oil and resins may lose their potency and end up oxidizing if you let it infuse too much. One method is letting it infuse on warm (a Crock-pot keeps warm at over 140 degrees typically) for about two hours before letting it sit and absorb in a cool and dark spot. Go by smell, texture, and look for rust or signs of leakage.

(2) MEASURE: Measure out your base ingredients first - Olive oil and Fir infused almond oil. A good amount to trial is 5ml so now we have to do some math. Whatever percentage (%) your are using of that herb you will want to multiply by 5ml to get the ml you will need.

EX : Almond Oil 60% (.60) x 5ml = 3 ml

(3) ADD-IN: Now we will use the same formula to determine how much essential oils we want. If you are altering this recipe in any way, simply check that the percentages add up to 100. You can add the essential oils to the whole batch, or bottle and experiment with your blend by adding them directly! For skin safety try and stay about 2-5% essential oils total.

(4) BOTTLE: Once you have your blend all measured out, you can bottle it up! I use these made of amber soda lime glass, these help protect the oils from potential photo-oxidation.

As always, don’t forget to label.
